Although we’re a sustainable enterprise, we still need your donations. Our model funds our running costs: that means the wages of the teachers, our staff, and business units.
But it doesn’t cover some of the higher-end costs involved in our education goals. This means building schools, furnishing classrooms, and maintaining our educational facilities to the very high standard all children deserve.
In addition to that, we still do need some donations to cover core expenditure: there are time lags involved in farming and harvesting; there are risks; and there are payback times just as for any business.
We’re currently covering approximately 60% of our running costs with our Sierra Leonean business. This is a huge achievement, but still leaves a shortfall of 40% to make up from donations in the UK – just until our model is robust enough to provide 120% of costs. Only then, with a little margin for error, will we be confident enough to start channelling donations solely into the expansion of our free, quality education for children with no other chance of going to school.
We think a donation to us offers the best value for donating anywhere: your donation won’t just fund running costs. They will create a model that offers generation after generation of Sierra Leoneans accessing the highest quality of education, and the best possible industries the nation desperately needs.
